PostHeaderIcon How do I ask my snoring roommate to move out?

I have a classmate that I agreed to be roommate with. At the very beginning she told me that she is a quiet sleeper. The night that she moved in she snored like a tornado. I couldn’t sleep for 4 nights that I stayed in the same room with her. I talked to her about it and she started to give me an attitude telling me that I should use a ear plugged to accommodate her. I ended moving into the living room and then to the master bedroom with the other 2 girls. Now she has stayed for 2 weeks. How do I tell her that she needs to move out? She is the last person to move in and she is not a cosignor on the lease. I don’t want to be mean but I have tried everything and I’m the only who have tried everything. She didn’t do anything, except giving me an attitude. HELP.

well, you agreed to let her move in and moving is a hard thing. maybe she didn’t know she was a snorer and when you confronted her, you hurt her feelings and she got defensive. people can not help what they do when they are asleep!!! would you get mad at someone for something they did in your dream? so why get angry at someone who might snore; walk; or talk while they sleep. why don’t you calmly talk to her and suggest nose strips or other means for her to help with her snoring? my personality would be to laugh with her about it and joke about the snoring with her(not at her). and to come up with a solution to her snoring. try not to be so harsh with people who can not control what they do when they aren’t awake. asking someone to move out just for that reason is very petty on your part and very insensitive. learn to lighten up and get a sense of humor about this SMALL problem!

apnea

Snoring is the fluttering sound created by the vibrations of tissues that obstruct the free flow of air trough the passages at the back of the throat and nose.
In children snoring usually occurs when enlarged adenoids or tonsils vibrate during breathing, creating hoarse or harsh sounds.
The narrower the airway becomes, the greater the vibration and the louder the snoring. Snoring may be an occasional problem, or it may be permanent.
A chronically snoring child should be examined for problems with his tonsils and adenoids.
Less common, anatomical abnormalities of the nose and throat, such as nasal polyps or deviated nasal septum con cause snoring.
What are the effects of snoring?
Usually snoring causes sleep deprivation for both the snorer and his family. The child may wake frequently. Parents have trouble sleeping deeply because of the snoring noise, plus anxiety about the son’s health and well-being.
The effects of sleep deprivation are:
•Sleepiness.
•Irritability.
•Poor school performance.
•Excessive daytime drowsiness.
•Morning headaches.
•Awakening in the morning not feeling rested.
•Changes in the level of attention, concentration, or memory.
•Poor mental and emotional health.
•A negative mood.
•Low energy.
•Unclear thinking.
•Slower reaction time.
Children who snore are about four times more likely than those who don’t to wet the bed.
When enlarged adenoids are the cause of snoring, it can also cause:
•Mouth breathing.
•Bad breath.
•Chronic runny nose (nasal congestion)
•Frequent ear infection (glue ear)
•Reduction in smell and taste.
•Loss of appetite.
•Failure to thrive.
•Pulmonary hypertension and right side heart failure.
The adenoids may be enlarged or chronically infected to the extent that they affect Eustachian tube function, causing recurrent ear infections. Blockage of the Eustachian tube can lead to a condition called secretory otitis or, glue ear. This reduces the child’s hearing until the blockage is relieved. Children who have persistent glue ear often have hearing loss and associated speech delay and may be classified as mentally challenged.
Children can also present with symptoms of chronic or recurrent sinusitis including postnasal purulent drainage, cough, fever, facial pain, and nasal congestion.
Chronic mouth breathing can lead to facial and dental abnormalities with failure of orthodontic treatments.
Sometimes the walls of the throat collapse completely so that it is completely occluded, creating a potentially life-threatening disorder: sleep apnea (cessation of breathing). This is a serious condition which requires medical attention.
