She wore laced gloves on
Dainty hands that held a
Slowly swaying fan, yet
She could not fan away the
Flames of desire that
Sparkled in her eyes, as
Mine, the moment we met.

She said I was her whole
World. I was taken aback
And sought solutions
Outside of myself, and said
To the most beautiful
Girl, "This is about you
Giving me ideas to help
Myself, for any touch will
Bring sorrow, and what I
Say will bring insult. Is it
Better not to have loved?"

A primordial fascination
Fixed her deep brown eyes
To mine; I longed to be
With her, and have her,
And have her in my heart
And soul, to lay with her
To make certain she didn’t
Snore; only then would I
Decide if we had a future.
Danny who? Is this good?
Thanks neon….i just can’t have a serious ending; life is too short.

Two answers! That’s almost a record for me!
Hiram, don’t you mean re–reading?

Very enjoyable read, especially your ’sorrowful’ ending! lol

I have a problem of snoring which causes lot of inconvenience for my family members. Is there any way in which I can get rid of this problem?

First rule out any medical problem like a nasal obstruction like nasal polyps or a deviated nasal septum or like a throat obstruction while sleeping. In the absence of these, the following tips will help to stop snoring or reduce it to within tolerable limits :
1. Loose weight.20% over weight men and 30% over weight women snore more.
2. If you are not active in life, you will snore more.
3. Do not drink alcohol before dinner. If you do,then to avoid snoring, drink a lot of water before you sleep.
4. Quit smoking. If you can’t,then give a break of at least 4 hours before you sleep.
5. Sleep on your side and not straight. If you are a moderate snorer,it will stop if you sleep on your side.
6. Avoid pillows.Avoid elevation of your head and neck and you will snore less or stop snoring.

I, my family and neighbors are having problems to sleep because of my snoring. I can’t move to the mountains, so please somebody help me.

There are a number of remedies for snoring, but few are proven clinically effective. Popular treatments include:
• Mechanical devices. Many splints, braces, and other devices are available to reposition the nose, jaw, and/or mouth in order to clear the airways. Other devices are designed to wake an individual when snoring occurs. Patients should consult a dentist or orthodontist about these devices, as most require custom fitting. In addition, persons with certain types of gum disease or dental problems should not be fitted with oral appliances to stop snoring.
• Nasal strips. Nasal strips that attach like an adhesive bandage to the bridge of the nose are available at most drugstores, and can help stop snoring in some individuals by opening the nasal passages.
• Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Some chronic snorers find relief by sleeping with a nasal mask that provides air pressure to the throat.
• Decongestants. Snoring caused by nasal congestion may be successfully treated with decongestants. Some effective herbal remedies that clear the nasal passages include golden rod (Solidago virgauria) and golden seal (Hydrastis canadensis). Steam inhalation of essential oils of eucalyptus blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus) or peppermint (Mentha x piperata) can also relieve congestion.
• Weight loss. Snoring thought to be caused by excessive weight may be curtailed by a sensible weight loss and exercise program.
• Sleep position. Snoring usually worsens when an individual sleeps on his or her back, so sleeping on one’s side may alleviate the problem. Those who have difficulty staying in a side sleeping position may find sleeping with pillows behind them helps them maintain the position longer. Other devices include a new vest designed to prevent the sleeper from lying on his or her back.
• Bed adjustments. For some people, raising the head of the bed solves their snoring problem. A slight incline can prevent the tongue from retracting into the back of the throat. Bricks, wooden blocks, or specially designed wedges can be used to elevate the head of the bed approximately 4–6 in.
Alternative treatments that have been reported to be effective for patients whose snoring is caused by colds or allergies include acupuncture, homeopathy, and aromatherapy treatments. Aromatherapy treatments for snoring typically make use of marjoram oil, which is thought to be particularly effective in clearing the nasal passages.

Our 13 year old silky terrier has gone to the vet four times now for her tennis ball size lipoma, her shots and general checkup and we’re planning to take her again for the lipoma. The doctor has last said that the surgical procedure is very dangerous due to the anesthetics and the tumor is benign however our dog seems increasingly annoyed by it.

First is it under her neck and second it causes her to snore. She does not appear sick, has a very healthy appetite, and is well enough to bark at the neighbors or odd noises. But just recently she’s started to be more irritated (like a bad mood and barking a little more) and we are worried it is the lipoma.

We of course don’t want to lose her but if she’s actually in pain and not letting us know (as I’ve heard dogs are very good at hiding pain) we want to help. Lastly she doesn’t whine or yelp when I touch her and actually wants me to pet her and keep her company and follows me around as usual.

We want the best for our dog and we are open to solutions. We will also go for a second opinion before going back to the original doctor. We’d do anything to keep her happy but we don’t know if this surgery will make a difference for her or if it’s a smart idea at all.

We are wondering if others have done this with their elderly dog and if the dog seems happier and less bothered or the same.

Thank you for reading and understanding our situation. Money is currently not a concern. We’d do anything for her.

At this point, it is about the dog’s quality of life – and you are the best judge of that.
If your dog is made uncomfortable by the lipoma and it interferes with her comfort and activity, I would suggest having the surgery done again.
While there is a small chance she will not make it, there is a far greater likelihood that she will – and if she can have more happy months, or years, I would risk it.

Your choice, however, you see the dog, we can’t. In any case, I wish you and your dog the very best. You are obviously responsible, loving dog owners and your dog is fortunate that you care about her well being.

Chantalle,
I have decided to write to you because I can express myself more freely and you can hear my words without the need for defending your own. I want to start by saying that how you treated me the on Sunday was hurtful and ironically insensitive considering that I have received a lecture from you for not being mindful of your feelings. I truly believe that you are a good person and that your capacity for good things far outweighs your occasional tendency for ignorance, arrogance and malice. You just treat me like shit sometimes, just as I do to you. I don’t have anything to hide yet I feel inadequate and inferior to the way that I use to look a couple of years ago and that is why you perceive my behaviour as being insecure and having a problem. It is not right however to be aggressive with what you want and insult when you don’t get your way. Then on top of all that compare your self image with mine. How would you like it if every time you wear makeup I tell you that I never wear it and ask you why you’re so insecure about your skin? One thing I can thank you for is forcing me to turn my eyes back upon my own denied insecurity of my body image. It is truly helping me to be extra vigilant in my effort to become healthier even if it is a painful reminder.

Another issue that I’ve got to deal with is your decision to sleep in the living room because of my snoring. First, I’m working on ways to solve the problem, you are not. You are side-stepping it and alienating me in the process. What guy wants to be able to say that he and his girl don’t even sleep in the same bed anymore…? I’ll save you the trouble, and me the indignity of sleeping in my girlfriend’s bed alone by just getting the hell out every time until I figure out a solution. Its not like you even want to do anything with me these days anyway… ever since you have gone through some recent religious reflection I KNOW that you feel guilty about sleeping with me, even though you did for years. I sense it and it truly hurts me, but at the same time I’m aware that its part of principles that you live by so I can not challenge it. I just have to feel bad every time i want to be intimate with you. I don’t really know how I’m gonna deal with this but I’ll figure that out in time.

Its true that familiarity breeds contempt, and I feel this is the reason that we have been fighting with each other a lot lately. I also feel that when you are on your period, you become extremely confrontational and difficult to deal with. You even admit that you are afraid of being bitchy to people. I’ve been keeping track and I find that most of our biggest fights happen when you’re on your period, therefore I think its best that I limit the amount of time that I spend around during this time to avoid problems. As for time in our time in general, I would still like to come and see you on weekends as I still love doing, but otherwise I think that we should limit the rest of the week for a bit. I think that we will both appreciate each more when we spend a little less time around one another. I feel that I’m in your space too much and that might be the reason you snap at me sometimes. For the same reason, I say dumb things and I don’t realize that I’m not respecting you the way I should.

Chantalle I love you and it ruins my whole day when I haven’t resolved things with you. These are the issues that I should have brought up with you the last time I was there but my pride doesn’t always let me be so straight forward. I’m realistic and know that we won’t always see eye to eye but if we could avoid the big fights then I feel that we will have made some real progress.
Love,
Jay

I Truly want to change and I feel like he has some legitimate points. My boyfriend works at the bank but he also models for tip-top tailors as a part time job. Everyone thinks he is good looking but i can’t figure out why he took my question " what is your waist size?" as offensive. About the feeling guilty sleeping with him, I felt guilty just once after attending a religious lecture. I’m cool to sleep with him now. Anyway please tell me how you would respond if you were in my position. Thanks a lot!

wow i think he wrote that letter very well in terms of grammar and at least he is honest and i think you two should sit talk and talk about it in person and try to resolve the issue

I went to see Avatar today. (great movie btw) And the theater was pretty quiet, i saw the 1:30 showing. There was a man that looked to be in his 30s – 40s. First off he fell asleep for the first half of the movie and made this big snore. When he woke up he watched the movie but then decided to talk on his cell phone. He was talking so loud people could hear him across the theater. Eventually the gentleman in front of me stood up and got the manager. He left (the guy that was being disruptive) When the guy who told the manager came back everyone in the theater clapped, including me. I was about to do something myself. It actually was kind of satisfying because thats when the big final battle happened.

I’m wondering what everyone else considers to be the best solution to dealing with rude people at the movie theater.
Especially:
-Annoying litte kids that won’t shut up
-Teenagers (mainly girls) who won’t shup up about who’s dating who (or anything really)
-People who talk on their cell phone
-People who throw things

Bring it to the attention of the manager. They have the authority to remove them. If someone is noisy during a movie they don’t care or have respect for the comfort of those around them. Talking to them could only make the situation worse. I’ve reported people that were similar to the man you described and they removed or asked them to be quiet.

If it is kids that are making noise, I still go to management. Saying something to whomever brought them is pointless. They’re aware that people are listening and they either don’t care or can’t control their child. If it is the latter the parents should have hired a baby sitter. (I’m not speaking about a little noise now and then, but when the children are loud and don’t let up.)

Take a cellphone next time you go. Keep it turned off during the movie. If in need: turn it on, walk over to the top of the isle or outside the door and call the theatre. (Have them in your speed dial first) and let whomever answers to send a manager in.

I thought it might ‘make or break’ our relationship as we could no longer take each other for granted. Instead she promised things would improve but then messed up our finances, spends all her time with the kids and eventually denied me sex. I now wish I had gone ahead without her agreement as my anger at her behaviour in the last two years has alienated my kids from me. I was always considered an excellent father but they no longer think of me like this and are all on her side. After bending over backwards to please her for years, having a nervous breakdown as a result I feel angry and cheated. We home educate, but after my breakdown I could have done with some peace, care and attention but she would not even consider sending them to school, they don’t want to go and I wouldn’t want to force them anyway. We started sleeping apart as I snore. My main problem is the massive power shift to her as the kids have grown, being there all the time. Any intuitive guesses at my best solution?

I am sorry you are in this situation. But, you are the only one that can fix it, make yourself happy, etc. I have a 2 & 3 year old and left my husband after staying at home with my children since they were born. I had no job, no money, and was scared to death. But, I am so happy I went for it, because I thought about it for so long and then I finally just did it, due to his physical & mental abuse. Basically, it was an unhealthy relationship. Yours sounds unhealthy as well (in different ways), and if you feel like you have done everything you can to talk to her, try to make positive changes for the betterment of your family and you just don’t know what else to do. I think one day soon, in a couple days, or weeks, it will just hit you what you need to do, walk out the door or stay and work on it. I recommend counseling, if she is willing, I have tried that and I got a lot of use out of it, but my ex-husband stopped showing up to the sessions. Anyway, just work on yourself to be happy physically, mentally, spiritually, and love and support those kids. And, it sounds to me you are at a fork in the road as to what to do. Concentrate on your happiness and everything else will fall in to place. What helped me while I was in a really unhappy marriage was what I said above. I just concentrated on after the kids were down working out, reading, because that is what I liked to do. I went to church every Sunday and it made such a difference. Because you are the only one you can control. Not her, she sounds like she needs to get her act together. I keep going on and on, but, best of luck to you!

I have a ten year old Cocker Spaniel and my best friend in the world. He sleeps on my bed at night but often he’d snore loud enough to either wake me up or keep me awake until I reposition him or wake him up. So I end up waking up 4 or 5 times in a night and getting up more tired than when I went to bed.
There is no solution to this I am sure but what I tried was:
1. Had him checked out at the vet for nasal problems. Since my dog was recently diagnosed with cancer after a biopsy on a lump on his head, the vet just said there may be a tumor in his nose. I fail to see however how the nose and the lump on his head are connected. I am currently still in denial about the cancer diagnoses because he seems fine and because it’s more comfortable for me I suppose.
2. I made him sleep outside my room but I still hear him snore but not as much. In any case unless I close my door, hell come back in and if the door is closed he’ll scratch a little at it and I know he’s feeling miserable.

I suppose when he’s gone I will miss his snoring and everything else that makes him such a good friend but right now I just want to get some sleep.

I am sorry for your dog. Please make him comfortable in your room again. You could invest in ear plugs. You can purchase them at any drug store. If they don’t keep the snoring out completely, maybe they will at least muffle the sound. Good Luck.

The above answer is ridiculous!! Anyways snoring is a sign of restrictive breathing and I actually would not recommend the surgeries whatsoever. They do not work and neither do home remedies. Most likely your husband has obstructive sleep apnea. Snoring is a very good indicator, although not always present. Sleep apnea is associated with many cardiac issues such as high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke and can be fatal if left untreated. Your husband needs to be evaluated by a board certified sleep physician and have a sleep study performed. The only proven effective treatment for sleep apnea is CPAP or continous positive airway pressure and it will stop the snoring so you can get your rest as well. Good luck

There are a number of remedies for snoring, but few are proven clinically effective. Popular treatments include:

Mechanical devices. Many splints, braces, and other devices are available which reposition the nose, jaw, and/or mouth in order to clear the airways. Other devices are designed to wake an individual when snoring occurs.
Nasal strips. Nasal strips that attach like an adhesive bandage to the bridge of the nose are available at most drugstores, and can help stop snoring in some individuals by opening the nasal passages.
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Some chronic snorers find relief by sleeping with a nasal mask which provides air pressure to the throat.
Decongestants.
Weight loss. Snoring thought to be caused by excessive weight may be curtailed by a sensible weight loss and exercise program.
Sleep position. Snoring usually worsens when an individual sleeps on his or her back, so side sleeping may alleviate the problem. Those who have difficulty staying in a side sleeping position may find sleeping with pillows behind them helps them maintain the position longer.
Bed adjustments. For some people, raising the head of the bed solves their snoring problem. A slight incline can prevent the tongue from retracting into the back of the throat. Bricks, wooden blocks, or specially designed wedges can be used to elevate the head of the bed approximately 4–l6 in (10–41 cm).

Prevention

Adults with a history of snoring may be able to prevent snoring episodes with the following measures:

avoid alcohol and sedatives before bedtime.
remove allergens from the bedroom.
use a decongestant before bed.
sleep on the side, not the back.
