PostHeaderIcon Snoring! Help! Anyone know any ideers?

Ugh…I am a female…and my husband says I snore terrible. Before you ask, yes I am overweight, but I have always been overweight, and within the past year my snoring has gotten worse and worse.

I have tried: Snorenz…breathe right strips, blowing my nose really good before I go to sleep, Afrin to help clear my sinuses so I can breathe easier, moving my pillow around in different positions, so my head is in different positions. And nothing seems to improve it.

I will note that I am extremely tired, when I wake up I feel no more rested than I did before I went to sleep. I am under a great deal of stress due to finances (we could lose our house) and so forth. Could this be making it worse? The stress I mean?

Please help…any suggestions would be helpful…before my husband either leaves me or starts sleeping on the couch or in the dog house!

You should check to see if you have sleep apnea. If so there are devices that can help with the snoring and that can help you have a good nights sleep. The devices are not very attractive to wear and can be uncomfortable, but I think you should consider that secondary to your health and to your relationship with your husband. Also know that it is not uncommon for spouses to start the night off together in the same bed and for one to move to another room or couch because of the snoring.

Well besides the obvious, which is that if you are over weight you need to lose weight, since you may be experiencing sleep apnea – you can try a Snore Mouthpiece. They usually sell it drug stores. It looks like a mouth guard to stop teeth grinding, but it actually holds your lower jaw up. Sometimes – snoring is caused by your lower jaw "falling" back when you relax and fall asleep. This causes the snoring to occur. If you get a the mouthguard it should help.

Honestly, dropping a few pounds is needed. The extra weight is pressing down on you and though many people who are overweight don’t snore, most people who DO snore, are overweight (even by a little)

exercise well during the day–build up to 30 minutes of cardio (of course, with prior doctor consent) and this sometimes helps too.

My husband is a snorer. It is terrible to live with it. I notice if he even gets 5 extra pounds on him, and skips the work out, he snores.

it’s not a quick fix, but if you’re dilligent and really make an effort to lose some weight and exercise daily, your snoring can be fixed or at least lessened.

And as the other answerers have stated, sleep apnea is something you should be very careful with–many of my patients when I was in the cardiac care unit were apnic for most of their lives–so apnea can damage heart muscle and eventually lead to serious illness/death.

A Holter monitor (ordered by your doctor) can tell you if you stop breathing at night.

    good luck!

See an ear/nose/throat doctor. That would be the best thing to do.
Some people just snore a lot. But you can do something…it’s a big problem if you (and obviously your hubby) don’t get your rest. It will affect other parts of your life.

Also, you might find that you will eat better if you get more rest. Research has shown that people who work odd shifts or stay up late tend to be overweight and consume more calories throughout the day…most likely to make up for the lack of energy they feel from not getting a good night’s sleep.

Start by sleeping on your side or your stomach, that can really help a lot. My wife used to snore a lot too but she found this book http://snoringremedies.info and it really solved her snoring issues
